Michael Gromm paints super-real figures that appear surprisingly at home within surreal, abstract environments, morphing in space and time. ‘I like to think we are all abstractionists,’ says Michael, ‘that our approach to our environment is to change it to fit our needs’.
Michael was born in Mt. Gambier, completed his Bachelor of Arts (fine arts)
at the University of Ballarat in 2001, and was awarded the David Pratt Drawing
Award in the the same year. He was one of 38 artists short-listed for the
2008 Geelong Gallery Fletcher Jones Art Prize, with his painting 'Bounce
the chocolate the number the', and this recognition coincided with his sell
out show in 2008 at Metropolis Gallery.
