Large scale works in charcoal, contrasting natural and man-made environments.
Barry Gillard presents a similar large-scale response in charcoal, but
to the natural world rather than the man-made urban landscape. His weekends
are productive reconnaissance trips to Cape Otway, and to forests and other
natural landforms. Together with on-site sketches, Barry takes many photographs
which form a ‘point of departure’ for his epic works on paper,
which show a deep connection to nature, and a heightened awareness of landscape.
Barry’s works are held in Geelong Gallery, Horsham Regional Art Gallery,
and private collections in Australia.

ARTIST PROFILE
Born Melbourne 1957
Resides Geelong, Victoria
1975-1978 completed Bachelor of Education Art and Craft at Melbourne University
and has since taught a variety of art-based subjects in Victorian Secondary
Schools.
