In Retrospect

The linocuts and gouache paintings of Debbie Mourtzios reflect a quirky humour found in period architecture. Mourtzios captures the atmosphere of the sky, the play of light, its shapes and shadows. She has discovered buildings with commonplace names like Shirley, Shelley and Peter that sit like beacons in the bland contemporary urban landscape. In a busy world Debbie honours simple pleasures of the moment observed.
