My Country
5 - 19 September 2015

Artist Debra Jackson, has a passion for Australia and representing her country with paintings of thick textured paint, pattern and colour.

The title of her exhibition, My Country, is a response to the famous Australian poem by Dorothea Mackellar with the same title in which the words I love a sunburnt country have been immortalised.

The inspiration for Debra’s art comes from the beauty of the vast Australian land and seascapes and her paintings are an attempt to capture a deeper meaning and spirit that comes with her connection to the land.

She has developed a great interest in naturally occurring and man-made patterns and designs and paints the organic landscape with layers of textured oil paint to create depth and movement throughout her work.

Debra has lived and worked in her places of inspiration. She was raised by the sea in Torquay and later worked as a nurse in the Torres Straits and Cape York Peninsula. She lived among the farms and vineyards of the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula and is now back by the ocean where she resides in Ocean Grove.

Debra has travelled extensively throughout Australia and keeps these visions and experiences in her memories both visually and emotionally, all ready to be made into paintings.

Debra’s artwork is in national and international private art collections.
