Femme Fatale:

1 – 16 August

Melbourne printmaker Jazmina Cininas presents a sweeping visual survey of the female werewolf throughout the centuries, re-imagined as exquisite reduction linocut portraits. Produced over eight years in the course of Jazmina’s PhD research for her Girlie Werewolf Hall of Fame, the portraits draw on references as diverse as early modern woodcuts, Baltic folklore, Victorian gothic literature, comics and contemporary cinema, bringing to light the many overlooked yet fascinating narratives of female lycanthropy.

Jazmina has exhibited both nationally and internationally and her linocuts have been acquired by numerous collections throughout Australia and overseas including the Australian National Gallery, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Victorian Arts Centre and Jingdezhen University in China.  She lectures in printmaking at RMIT University and has spoken on both art and female werewolves at international conferences in the UK, USA and Hungary.
