Mark Cairns’ paintings are calm, and the infinite sea and sky is an evocative backdrop to the evidence of the persistence of humanity. We seek to understand the strong, simple message in these structures, but mystery envelopes them. And so we are drawn into the super-real contemplation of shape, colour and light. Mark Cairns’ distinctly minimalist paintings are clear evidence that ‘less is more’, and the artist is quick to voice a more than fleeting interest in geometric abstraction.
