Peter Smales says that ‘… painting is all about light: the joy of seeing and how to harmonise the subject with pictorial and decorative qualities.’ He began painting in his early teens and was fortunate to receive early encouragement from his neighbour, artist Sir William Dargie. Peter’s oil paintings are immediately recognisable, with their effortlessly captured moods and impressions of light and colour.
