Phillip Edwards

Phillip Edwards is an artist from the Victorian central highlands. He studied fine arts at the Victorian College of Arts in the early 1990’s graduating with a Bachelor in fine art painting.

A former secondary art teacher, he now dedicates his time to painting and sculpture. Recently he has been producing large scale majestic watercolour landscapes of Mt Buffalo in Central Victoria as well as more local scenes.

He was awarded the Trustees Watercolour Prize as a finalist of the 2018 Wynne landscape prize at the gallery of New South Wales. With 30 years art practice and multiple solo shows and group exhibitions in and around Melbourne he continues to refine both his painting and sculpture practice.

When I hike in back country I’m totally present in a contemplative way. Be it a snow drift or local creek I’m drawn in by the macro and micro. Mountains, outcrops, trees and streams and as I look down the mosses and ground covers. For me my paintings capture that invisible energy behind all things. A mystical encounter with beauty.
