Metropolis brings to Geelong another impressive selection of works
by some of Australia’s best known artists including Arthur Boyd,
John Brack, Russell Drysdale, Lloyd Rees, Constance Stokes, Marguerite
Mahood and Godfrey Miller; an exceptional large Brett Whiteley lithograph
‘Back 1’; an important J.J. Hilder watercolour ‘Lennox
Bridge’; landscape etchings by Fred Williams; a number of delightful
drawings by Sybil Craig and lots more.
The Collectors Show will also feature a stunning group of impressionist
paintings by David Newbury (1925-2003) of the surf coast and hinterland.
David was born in Eltham in 1925, the son of A.E. Newbury. These predominantly
coastal paintings were painted during the 1980’s and 1990’s
when Newbury was living in Geelong, and reflect the importance of
times spent painting outdoors near the family’s retreat at Moggs
Creek.
The Metropolis Collectors Show provides a great opportunity for both
established and new collectors to add some major names in Australian
art to their walls.
