WINTER IN METROPOLIS

During the month of June, Metropolis Gallery is presenting a diverse exhibition of paintings, edition prints, artglass and sculpture by many artists represented at the gallery.

Featuring new paintings by Ji Chen.

There is a fine selection new paintings by Ji Chen with an emphasis on Geelong. Chen is an exceptional landscape painter and captures the essence of his subjects with expressive brushstrokes combined with an almost ethereal softness and warmth.

Ji Chen was born in Shanghai, China. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at Shanghai Drama Academy in 1984, and after worked as chief set designer for the Beijing Opera Theatre Company of China. His technical mastery showcased in his breath-taking landscapes quickly grew in reputation. Subsequently, his watercolour work, Pool, was the recipient of a prestigious national award, and exhibited throughout China, which marked the beginning of his professional career as an artist.

Ji and his family arrived in Australia in 1989. For Ji, the vivid colours and brilliant light of the Australian landscape provided him an artistic subject like no other – In Australia, the weather, and therefore the landscape, is the best teacher. I look and I learn.

Eros Anceschi

Eros Anceschi has found himself drawn to Victoria’s ruggedly beautiful Otway Coast to create his works since 2006. Taking regular three-hour road trips from his St Kilda East home and working from drawings, snapshots and memory, his paintings are then completed in his home studio, resulting in a stunning and emotive collection of landscape oil paintings, representing aspects of the Western Otway Coast accessed via the Great Ocean Walk around Cape Volney and Moonlight Head.

Geelong Picture Framers

Geelong Picture Framers at Metropolis Gallery

Geelong Picture Framers is a busy custom-framing workshop located upstairs at Metropolis Gallery. We specialise in the conservation framing of paintings and works on paper, sentimental family treasures and memorabilia. We stretch canvases and also frame everything from posters and paintings to football jumpers and other 3D objects.

We’ll help select a frame that not only enhances the work: it’s important that the frame, matt, backing board and glass help to preserve it for many years to come.

Geelong Picture Framers turn your pictures into art!
