STEVE SALO:
The Back to Back Theatre Portraits

Geelong After Dark
6 - 8pm Friday 6 May

For one night only, on Friday 6 May as part of Geelong After Dark, Metropolis Gallery will exhibit The Back to Back Theatre Portraits, a unique collaboration between Geelong painter Steve Salo and Back to Back Theatre.

Meet Steve and preview completed paintings and works in progress, along with his sketchbooks from the sittings.

Award-winning artist Steve Salo has been collaborating with the internationally acclaimed Back to Back Theatre company since January 2016 and will continue until mid-year. This collaboration exists to create portraits of the six ensemble actors and the artistic director Bruce Gladwin.

Steve Salo said that The sittings have been incredible, a painter’s dream. Bruce and the actors each have an intense and powerful presence; their faces and emotion completely draw me in. It’s an honour and highlight of my career to be painting them.

Geelong Picture Framers

Geelong Picture Framers at Metropolis Gallery

Geelong Picture Framers is a busy custom-framing workshop located upstairs at Metropolis Gallery. We specialise in the conservation framing of paintings and works on paper, sentimental family treasures and memorabilia. We stretch canvases and also frame everything from posters and paintings to football jumpers and other 3D objects.

We’ll help select a frame that not only enhances the work: it’s important that the frame, matt, backing board and glass help to preserve it for many years to come.

Geelong Picture Framers turn your pictures into art!

Phil Allen

Painting in oils is ELIDA LUCIARTES’s passion and in recent years experimentation has allowed her to develop a new technique and distinctive style to create these highly charged compositions of light and colour.

PHIL ALLEN is a long time admirer of modern stencil artists and in this exhibition Phil presents hybrid versions of his trademark hyper realistic paintings of fruits, in large scale works that delightfully combine pop art with street art.
