Metropolis Gallery masthead

This stunning exhibition features work by artists Susan Sutton, Amanda Blake-Sutterby and Kayo Yokoyama. Be quick!

SUSAN SUTTON is well known for keenly observed, atmospheric images that reflect her ongoing interest in the effects of light and space in the natural and urban landscape, whether in the bush, under a railway bridge, on the beach or in the street. ‘I paint best what I know and understand in the region that I have lived most of my life… familiarity and research for detail form the basis of my images’.

AMANDA BLAKE-SUTTERBY'S paintings celebrate landscape and there is clarity to her work that addresses both order and randomness, which co-exist in nature perfectly. Her work represents a lifelong connection with the environment: 'From bushwalking and boating in local lakes to picking mushrooms and saving tadpoles from fast evaporating ponds, it was all a very big part of my life in and around the Grampians National Park.'

Blue Mountains glass artist KAYO YOKOYAMA emigrated from Japan in 1997 to study Fine Arts at Sydney University. Kayo's love of Australia is represented in her beautiful etched glass: 'I am always looking for a place to belong. Most of my works are about identity and belonging.' In her most recent series of etched glass, Sanctuary, the search for home has been extended to a home not physical , but internal, unaffected by location.
